Fire Destroys Alaska Hotel in Fairbanks
Two hours after confessing to the slaying of his wife Maude Elmer McCune 40 a Puyallup Valley rancher was sentenced to life imprisonment by Superior Judge W D Chapman. He pleaded guilty to second degree murder saying he was practically insane. He killed his wife during a quarrel first with his fist then with a small axe and buried her body in the back yard. The slaying occurred November 9 1934. McCune served in the AEF taking part in five major engagements and was wounded once and gassed twice. He later worked as a cook in the U S Coast Guard.
