Elk to be moved to temporary Grizzly Island refuge
California plans to relocate 20 to 30 tule elk this week to Grizzly Island Wildlife Area in Suisun Marsh as Owens Valley herd numbers prompt transfers. Fifteen animals at Grizzly Island will later be moved permanently to Point Reyes National Seashore, with other sites sought. Last month 30 of 580 Owens Valley elk were sent to Concord Naval Weapons Station.
