Miscellaneous News Items from Ketchikan and Craig

Mrs. Helen Bell of Ketchikan Style Shop and Mr. Reuben a traveling salesman for M. Sellers Co. arrived on the Frances R. during a basket social. The Jumbo mine is slated to reopen in early spring. H.T. Co. faced a salesmen influx in October, including R. W. Thompson known as the King of the Diomedes who travels for Heinz Co. Thompson, formerly with the Bureau of Education in Eskimo service, says he was the only white man on the Diomedes Islands for a year. Hibbs is reported doing solid business in Craig. The Santa Ana is expected to call next week with freight, including a thousand feet of fir ceiling, shingles, doors and windows for a new store. Massett B.C. resident David Parnell reports his father’s death and that he inherits the estate, planning to visit next summer. His son Marius is growing strong and was described as a good boy. Miss Keith Horne, visiting Craig with Dr. and Mrs. Figgins, heads home to Shoshone Idaho on the Santa Ana after three months, having become skilled in oars, mountain climbing and fishing. Mr. Cloudy and family will move into Mason Frank’s house while staying.

Eighth Grade Return Highlights Local School News

Herbert George returns to school to resume eighth grade work and continues learning. He is also taking up type setting. Louie Kitkoon traveled to Sitka to attend Sheldon Jackson School. David Frank studied in Sitka last year and aims to finish the eighth grade locally while helping his father with home chores.
