Haymond water plan grows with 39 more homes added
GRAFTON An additional 39 homes were added Friday to the proposed Haymond water system. Horner Brothers Engineers president Paul Horner said extending lines to Browns Church, Country Club Road and Wickwire Road is feasible. The project cost now rises to about 800000, with 176 families already agreeing to pay 10.50 monthly for 3000 gallons. Financing relies on a strong grant and loan request from the Farmers Home Administration, including nearly 400000 in grants and 247000 in a loan. Shaffer signed the grant/loan applications as acting director for residents backing the plan.

Thornton Pumpkin Festival Kicks Off With Parade and Crowning
Thornton's Volunteer Fire Department hosts a seven day Pumpkin Festival starting Monday at Thornton Elementary School. Rides by North Star Amusement Company begin at 6 p.m. The Fireman's Parade runs Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. led by the oldest firefighter, with King Foreman crowned that night. Senior Citizens Day offers free pumpkin dollars to attendees. Queen Ferronia and Mini Queen Ferronia are slated for Thursday evening. Leonard Myers chairs the parade as VFD president.
