A dog rabies clinic will be held this Saturday at Flemington Grade School from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Shots cost $3, and owners should bring the current dog tax tags. State law requires dogs over five months old to be vaccinated every other year.
A Taylor County committee of principals and teachers studies the current report card form and plans to survey parents next year. They aim to standardize grading and improve records while reviewing school policies and possibly creating job descriptions, with changes not taking effect until 1978-79.
In Maury County Jail a 16 year old inmate set a padded cell afire causing 42 deaths from toxic fumes. 34 inmates died in cells while 8 others died or were injured during escape and rescue efforts. Authorities moved to charge the youth as an adult.
Congress weighs deleting all B1 production funding from a 110.6 billion defense bill as President Carter plans a final production decision by week’s end. House action could prompt Senate changes and a possible compromise while lawmakers also consider creating a new intelligence committee and pursuing amendments to ban assassinations and foreign interference by U.S. agents.
