PITTSBURGH AP Abel resigns after 12 years as president of the United Steelworkers guiding 1.4 million members. Lloyd McBride to succeed him. Under Abel, members rose from 5,918 to 18,304 by 1980. union grew to over 5,000 locals and about $130 million in assets. He pioneered a no strike stance and the Experimental Negotiating Agreement with major steel companies to avoid nationwide strikes.

Aurora shooting leaves man in critical condition

In Preston County a 51 year old truck stop operator shot Joe Roas in a late Tuesday incident, Hebb 41 of Aurora was flown to West Virginia University Hospital after chest wound surgery, Roas also wounded a hand, and police have not released further details while the case is investigated.
