Equitable Gas curtails large commercial customers through March 1977
Equitable Gas Company announced a winter curtailment for commercial customers through March 31 1977. Large users over 1500 MCF monthly face 50 percent of billed consumption in February and March 1976, while small firms and all schools are limited to 75 percent. Penalties apply for overuse though the company notes it seeks no extra funds. Schools face extra thermostat restrictions and daytime operation. Essential human services properties are exempt from curtailment but urged to lower thermostats. About 17 600 commercial customers in PA and WV will be notified by mail. curtailment info not available by phone. Residential customers are urged to keep thermostats at or below 62 degrees. The gas supply remains critical and extreme cold could force further reductions at short notice.

Mineworker killed in Kentucky coal mine accident
Phillip A. Likens, 30, of Manheim, died at 8:46 a.m. after a roof collapse at Bull Run Mining Company's Meredith Mine four miles south of here. He was operating a roof bolter near a blasting area, 1,500 feet underground, and died shortly after being taken to West Virginia University Medical Center. Mine inspector Walter Miller led the on site investigation.
