The Anking, en route from Singapore Strait settlements to Hong Kong, was looted by Chinese pirates off Tonking. Chief Officer David Jones of New Quay Wales and Chief Engineer Henry Thomson of Greenock Scotland were killed. Captain Plunkett Cole was wounded along with Third Officer A S Campbell.
