The message stated Have B. Carnes held here. Admits identity. Wire instructions. Chief Newton, chief constable. Poole wired Canadian authorities to hold the man and advised them of the $5,000 reward posted for Carnes' capture.

Kansas City Fed reports strong early fall activity in district
In Kansas City on September 28 the Tenth Federal Reserve District showed high activity in early fall. The monthly Kansas City Fed report notes higher output in manufacturing and minerals and larger distributive trade than a year ago with typical seasonal gains. Bank loans hovered near year highs while investments hit a new peak. Net demand deposits edged down slightly, while time and savings deposits rose versus both the previous month and September 1827.

State board upholds county assessor in utility tax
Helena Sept 28 The Montana Dakota Power Co operating in eastern Montana will pay taxes on the assessed valuation of its Custer county property after the state board of equalization ruled the county assessor correct. The company had reported 320,467 and the assessor raised it to 479,612. a protest followed and both the county board of equalization and the state board sustained the higher valuation.

Anaconda Copper Raises Wages If Copper Price Holds
Anaconda Copper Mining Company announces a wage increase of fifty cents per day for all daily payroll workers starting October 1 1928, with miners' contract prices adjusted accordingly. The raise remains while the average domestic copper price, per the Engineering and Mining Journal, stays at or above fifteen cents per pound for a calendar month. if it falls below, the daily rise is reduced by fifty cents the following month.
