Former Montana Publisher Yerkes Dies at 82 in Seattle
Abel K. Yerkes, 82, veteran writer, publisher and printer with ties to Montana and Seattle, died after a lengthy illness. Born in New Jersey, he ran a Miles City newspaper in 1882, published Billings newspaper now the Billings Gazette, and led the Bozeman Chronicle before moving to Seattle in 1899 to run a weekly and a printing shop. He was a Montana State Press association member and an honorary life member of the Miles City Masonic lodge.
