In Los Angeles on Sept 25 Mrs Lois Pantages wife of a theater magnate was found guilty of manslaughter for an automobile collision that killed Japanese gardener Juro Rokumoto. The jury of five women and seven men held no leniency and set the sentence between one and 10 years under California law. Three female jurors cried as the verdict was announced at 8 15 PM.
Sen Lafollette and Sen George assailed President Hoover over tariff flexibility in the Hanley Smoot bill debate. The pair condemned his remarks as breaking a long silence on tariffs as Democrats and farm state Republicans seek to repeal flexible provisions. Lafollette spoke at length on the issue, with continuation noted on Page 2.
City health inspectors praised the Butte high school cafeteria during a visit as the noon lunch served to 600 students showed a clean, well run operation. Alderman Morgan and Health Officer Dr Kane commended sanitation and efficiency during the inspection.
