The Mining city saw a winter preview as temperatures fell below freezing with a 29 degree low and 46 degree high in February warmth. Snowblanketed Butte yesterday morning with .03 inch precipitation. by noon sun melted all snow, while peak snow and frost backdrops hinted at rising temperatures today. Weather described as football weather by sportsmen, signaling winter lingering in the air.
A fire five miles northeast of Scottsbluff Nebraska killed three Mexican children Augustine Perez Trinidad and Esther Reys all ages seven five and six and seriously burned three others Ray Pered Sophia and Carmen Reys as rescue attempts failed The blaze started after Mrs Perez woke to feed chickens and alerted neighbors as her children fled the smoke-filled shack leaving the youngest unrescued
Dr Laurence L Sloss appointed instructor in geology at Montana School of Mines announced by Francis A Thomson president of the Butte college. Sloss recently earned a Ph D from the University of Chicago after completing the exams praised as the best in a decade. He previously graduated from Stanford in 1934 and comes with high recommendations from Chicago geology faculty.
A convict attacked Warden James A. Johnston at Alcatraz in the wake of a strike and riot. Burton Phillips from Wichita, Kansas, slugged the warden and slightly injured him. Johnston was taken to the prison hospital and later said he was not seriously hurt. an acting warden was named. The incident followed reports of Folsom prison unrest and the death of Warden Larkin.
President Roosevelt told Casper and Cheyenne crowds that constitutional government is succeeding and that the United States will continue the last four years' practices. He noted a budget balance aided by cutting Wyoming relief rolls and cited $60 million in federal spending in the state, while avoiding discussion of his court plan.

Ayers and R J Kelly will fly to Helena tomorrow for further talks on water construction projects and Public Works funds.
John Tobin of a Chicago filling station reports a break in during a 90 degree day. A thief stole $48 worth of anti freeze solution while Tobin found nothing else missing, suggesting the robber plans for a hard winter.
Roy Gore night watchman at the Pigeon lake CCC camp will call out Halt who goes there before stopping night prowlers. He encountered a shadowy figure and wrestled with a five foot black bear after it tried to slip into the camp following curfew.
The Serbian church hall at Idaho and Porphyry streets will be dedicated tomorrow with a cornerstone laying after the 10 o clock mass. The brick hall cost 20000 and will serve as a community center for Serbian lodges and the 2000 strong colony. A banquet and several speakers will follow the ceremony and a balcony may be added later for basketball and social events.
More than 1400 Catholic students from western Montana high schools arrived in Butte for the Helena diocese second annual Students' Catholic Action Conference. The convention opened yesterday with delegates from at least 12 communities. In closing, Rev. Edward Moram will celebrate mass at St. Patrick's Church at 8 o'clock for the delegates.
California State Federation of Labor mobilizes its 350000+ members to oppose the Committee for Industrial Organization on the Pacific coast. Sen.
