Gladys Veers Away From U.S. Coastline
Hurricane Gladys churned off the New England coast with six to ten foot swells before veering out to sea as a cold upper air mass pushed it east. A 12 year old boy was swept into Narragansett Bay and rescued after hours in the water, and Coast Guardsman Rei Geores saved another man from the surf near Larch Harbor New Jersey. The Weather Bureau issued advisories placing the storm south southeast of Nantucket Island and then moving east-northeast at 20 mph. Gale warnings for coastal towns were lowered to small craft warnings by late evening.

Two Reported Killed West of Great Falls
The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office reported two people believed killed in a collision with a 50 ton earth mover on Highway 89 91 four miles west of Great Falls. The county attorney and coroner were at the scene. A temporary signal light at the intersection had attracted controversy over safety. The earth mover was working on a construction project on Interstate Highway 15.

Butte Dedicates Eight Mile Interstate Highway Stretch
Butte will dedicate an eight mile section of Interstate 15 and 90 at the Montana Street overpass with federal, state and local officials attending. Rex M.
