The Senate voted 57 to 10 to override the President and make the anti-subversives bill law, ending a long filibuster. Congress adjourned for the election, with return set for Nov. 27 to address further taxes and the new Congress.
Regional Catholic congress gathers in Butte for the Fourth Regional Congress of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. Leaders from Montana Idaho Washington and Oregon attend. Bishop Gilmore hosts with Gov Bonner and Mayor Morgan to welcome attendees and open the program at the Fox theater.
Anaconda Copper Mining company announces the opening of its Employees Club in a distinctive Main and Third street building. From 2 to 9 pm Sunday the club offers tours for all employees, families, and friends before regular member access begins Monday at noon.
The Communist New China News Agency reported American planes raided Chinese territory Friday night injuring three people. It said one plane crossed the border into Lakeshao village in Liaotung Manchuria and a second dropped bombs northeast of the city Antung, wounding a child among others.

A member of the Socialist Unity party central committee warned that East Germans and Russians are reviving their war of nerves in Berlin to press Western powers. He said the western occupiers can sleep soundly only if East German will.
The fourth annual 4 H and FFA show in Butte drew high prices for long yearlings hogs and fat lambs at the Montana Livestock Auction yard. Prime beef and purple ribbon animals sold well with buyers including New Butte Butchers Rocky Mountain Cafe Metals Bank and Trust Safeway and several ranches and clubs in Madison Gallatin and Sweetgrass counties.
Montana faces a shortage of processing facilities despite rich food resources and a governor ordered resource survey. Commissioner Alfred Anderson warned that if supply chains for steel rubber fuel oil and chemicals falter both processing and production facilities slow to a standstill.

President Truman signed a 4.7 billion dollar war emergency tax act boosting individual and corporate taxes. Individual rates rise 12 to 20 percent effective Oct 1, with about 2.745 billion in expected revenue. corporate taxes rise from 38 to 45 percent retroactive to July 1, adding about 1.5 billion annually. The measure launches a pay-as-you-go revenue drive to fund Korean War costs, with a second installment on excess profits tax to be considered in November as Congress reconvenes. First effects appear after Oct 1, with 50 million taxpayers affected and changes in weekly withholdings.
Butte Sunday will be largely cloudy with possible showers. Sunday highs range from 65 to 75 while readings Sunday morning near 30 to Sunday afternoon around 70. In Montana west of Divide increasing clouds and scattered thundershowers. east of Divide, thunderstorms develop with highs 70 to 80.

Eight year old Joey Housey was found buried in a shallow grave in woods near his Detroit home. Police say he was slain by a sex deviate with his throat slashed and left side of his head battered. The body was buried under about a foot of dirt.

Canadian and American search planes scoured from Labrador to the western desert for a missing B50 bomber carrying 12 crewmen and 4 passengers. Over 24 hours overdue, the aircraft had left Goose Bay on a routine flight to Tucson with 17 hours of fuel. no contact since takeoff.
The Senate on Saturday cited Harry Russell a Miami and Chicago racketeer for contempt of Congress. The action followed a voice vote after Estes Kefauver asked that Russell be cited for refusing to answer questions the committee considered perfectly proper.
In Korea, Allied psychological warfare with leaflets and radio is increasing surrenders from North Korean troops. The program run by the psychological warfare branch within GHQ Far East command has shifted from morale boosting South Koreans to prompting Red soldiers to surrender. Despite risks, surrendering units now include officers and even youths, though fears of reprisal and mistreatment persist.
After three days of filibusters the Senate set aside a bill barring interstate shipment of slot machines to states where legal. Senator Malone waged a 11 hour solo filibuster, promising to press the measure again in November while Senator Johnson scheduled a temporary set aside.
In New York on September 23 the United States Communist party announced it would refuse to register under the new Communist-control law. National Party Chairman William Z Foster led the stance with party members warned of penalties up to $10,000 fine and five years in prison for noncompliance.
A secret Big Three meeting in New York with US Secretary of State Dean Acheson and Defense Chief George Marshall UK Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin and Defense Minister Emanuel Shinwell and France's Robert Schuman Jules Moch ends without a public decision on German units in a European defense force. A communique says they discussed an adequate integrated defense for Europe and will not issue further statements until the 12 nation North Atlantic council meets next week in New York.
Oren C. Stevenson 46 professor of personnel management at Montana State college died in St. Thomas hospital Akron after injuries from a three car collision Wednesday. His car was crushed between two others during a blackout caused by a power failure. He was visiting Akron before a graduate course at Western Reserve University. From 1931 to 1948 he worked in personnel at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
