Butte Man Slain in Basin Home. Son Hears Shot
Claude Weldon Vail, 57, a former Butte resident, was found shot dead in his Basin home. Sheriff Paradis said the fatal wound came from a high caliber rifle fired from inside the room. Vail’s wife, also employed at the Training School, was away at the time. their son Bert, 13, reported hearing a shot while chopping wood. A 300 Savage rifle lay beside the body. The death is under investigation with no inquest planned yet. Survivors include three other sons and a daughter. The body rests at Richards Funeral Home.
