Miners and smelter workers in Butte Anaconda Great Falls vote tomorrow on wage offers from Anaconda Company following two months of bargaining. A leaflet explains three ballot questions A B and C detailing continued negotiations or specific wage ladders tied to copper prices and contract lengths.
Led by Emperor Haile Selassie who flew from London, Ethiopia wins time in its bid to remain a League of Nations member while the assembly delays a eject decision. Ethiopian delegates will join discussions pending a credentials report. Delegates also worry over foreign intervention in the Spanish Civil War as Spain protests arms and munitions deliveries via Portugal.
Miller Freeman of Seattle says Japanese fishermen invading the north Pacific threaten Alaska and British Columbia salmon and halibut industries. He urges Senator Schwellenbach to push to declare western Alaska a strategic military area and close it to foreign fishing. Freeman notes offshore crab canneries and new halibut fleets near the Alaska coast.

Gov. Elmer Holt announced RA headquarters in Denver outlined a plan allowing monetary relief grants to be repaid by voluntary work on projects assigned by the Resettlement Administration. Agreements depend on recipient willingness and are not a required condition of the grant, with hours set by grant amount divided by local prevailing wage.
Fire Chief Fred Martin and Driver James Goggin escaped uninjured when a fire truck responding to an alarm failed to turn onto Front street and smashed into the General Electric Supply building at Front and Utah. Bricks were knocked out, glass shattered, and a desk and chair were displaced inside the doorway.
In Dillon on Sept 21 W S Tash finally received a letter from Bannack thirty miles away after 34 years. The missive, postmarked Bannack February 1902, resided under a floorboard until Edwin Ashworth bought the old post office and uncovered it.
Dr. Paul C. Phillips, widely known historian and chairman of the social science division, is named executive vice president by President George Finlay Simmons. Prof. F. C. Scheuch, university vice president since 1896, receives a one year leave of absence and is honored at a reception.
Butte council Knights of Columbus will install officers at a meeting tonight starting at 8 o clock. District Deputy John L White of Anaconda will preside and State Deputy W N Weber of Deer Lodge will attend and speak. An entertainment program and refreshments follow. large attendance expected.
A very short meeting led by W. T. McCarthy at the courthouse focused on campaign contributions and choosing a campaign headquarters. Butte experiences a warm spell at the autumn equinox with temperatures climbing from 47 to 80 degrees and even hitting 90 in some uptown readings. City records report a record-breaking week of high temperatures as September begins.
Flood waters of the Colorado River swept across thousands of acres in Texas and nearby counties. Evacuations limited the death toll to two as coast guard planes guided residents to safety. Red Cross mobilized aid while damage in a 25 by 10 mile area was estimated at 200 000 to 400 000 dollars. Milburn and surrounding communities faced homelessness and months of rehabilitation ahead.

The WPA plans an $18,995 program to improve play and recreational grounds for 6000 plus students across 19 Butte public schools including Butte High and Emerson Blaine Franklin Garfield Grant Greeley Harrison Hawthorne Jefferson Lincoln Longfellow McKinley Madison Monroe Sherman Washington Webster Whittier. If approved, work would cover cleaning grading remodeling fencing lawns shrubs and playground equipment with retaining walls where needed. The Montana district No 4 director said a decision is awaited in Washington and a third approval attempt is under way after two prior denials.
