Avon Bent reports a large crowd of 439 attended an open air mass at Quigley ranch six miles north of Avon. Father Patrick Casey of Drummond preached on pioneer fortitude and faith in God using historic elements from Sun day Inornitie’s mass. St Helena Cathedral choir, led by Rev. Matt Weber, performed. Flowers adorned the altar by Avon Catholic ladies.
J H Johnson aged 88 a native of Sweden died Sunday in a Helena hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services are set for 3 30 PM Tuesday at the Opp Conrad Retzuneral chapel with Rev Nels H Norbeck officiating. Born October 24 1859 in Main Wormland Lane Sweden he came to the United States and settled in Helena in June 15. He worked as a foreman of a contracting crew under his brother Louis Johnson and was a member of St Johns Lutheran church and the Scandinavian Fraternity. He is survived by his brother Louis a nephew Milton Johnson of Helena and several nieces and nephews in California.
Francis Fowler a Milwaukee road brakeman died in Three Forks after living there a decade. Born in England he served in the Canadian army in World War I and belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Order of Railway Conductors. His remains will be sent to Three Forks for services at a time to be chosen. survivors include wife Deane Fowler son and daughter in Spokane a niece and many Fowler relatives in Canada and England. Jack I Toole will speak to Oil Workers at Ont Bank meeting Tuesday.
Democratic governor candidate John W. Bonner told a Cascade county meeting the state fails to care for fish and game. He urged a representative fish and game commission, cooperation with sportsmen, and policy to boost resources and tourism.
Vice Presidential candidate Senator Alben Barkley of Kentucky will address a convocation at Montana State University in Missoula in October, announced by the Democratic State Central Committee. The note confirms Barkley's appearance as part of campaign events across Montana.

Plans for the annual Montana station convention of the American Waterworks Resocration were mapped at a meeting of state officers. The event is set for April 8 and 9 in Great Falls. C W Brink of Helena named publicity chairman. John Hazen of Butte heads the program committee with M F Dixon of Billings as vice chairman and William Wonzel of Great Falls as membership chairman. Other attendees included John Hall of Fort Shaw, director, Harry McCann of Missoula, and Morris Henderson of Bozeman trustees.
At a Sunday conference in Helena delegates from state, county and municipal employes endorse an all inclusive state civil service bill for 1951. The plan would cover all state workers and allow counties cities and districts to bring their workers under its provisions. A three to five member civil service commission would be appointed by the state board of examiners or governor with Senate approval. Committees will study job classification tenure and examinations and a salary survey will be conducted. A follow up conference is set for no later than February 20. Governor Ford states the spoils system has no place in modern government.
Senator James E. B. Murray will accompany Interior Secretary Julian Krug on a Montana trip to inspect Bureau of Reclamation projects. The tour covers Canyon Ferry, the Milk River, and Hungry Horse dam. Krug speaks at a Great Falls luncheon and then in Kalispell at a Flathead Valley event.
Funeral services were conducted last Thursday in Billings for Mrs. Ralph Rauh a well known figure in Butte. She died September 12. Her husband at one time led the German Lutheran church in Butte and was president of the Montana Music Teachers Association. both frequently visited the Mining city.

Deer Lodge residents were invited to a Wednesday 3 PM meeting of the Deer Lodge Council of Church Women at Mrs. W. J. Hoskyns home with rides offered by Mrs. J Stevenson. The event marks the club’s first gathering of the season and is open to all interested persons.

In San Antonio Texas on September 19 two Air Force flyers perished in a crash of an F-82 twin fuselage Mustang in a pasture northwest of Randolph Field. The pilot Lt Hawood Kornegy and crew chief Corp Andres Pangtag of Kearney Air Force Base Nebraska were identified by Air Force authorities.
The Lochmonar ran aground near Mite Cayman Island early morning after distress calls at 7:24 a.m. The bow struck rocks, a hole opened in the hull, and heavy waves lifted the vessel. Sixty-seven crew members and several passengers were aboard on a voyage from Cristobal Canal Zone to Cienfuegos Cuba.

Fred Richards of 1007 Waukesha died Sunday afternoon in a Butte hospital after a long illness. A native of Cornwall England he lived in Butte for over 61 years and worked as a miner until retirement. Survivors include his wife Mrs Mary Richards two sons in law and daughters in law from Butte two sons in law and daughters from Butte a sister Mrs Erma Bartlett a brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs Marshall Richards a sister in law Mrs Gertude Murrish two brothers Charla and Sam Richards and several nieces and nephews in Butte England and Canada. Body at Richards funeral home with funeral arrangements pending.
James G Bennett of Buthte reports the death of his brother Earl Bennett in Los Angeles He was widely known in the mining city where he lived 16 years before moving to California He is survived by his brother and a niece and nephew in Los Angeles
