Four Army Pilots Die in Crashes Amid War Games
Four Army pilots died during the second phase of the Third Army maneuvers in Louisiana and Texas. Lieuts R H Keith of Menomonie Wisconsin and Leland A Wair of Dunlap Kansas were killed when their planes collided near Natchitoches Louisiana. Two other pilots from the 12th Observation squadron, First Lieut Walter H Boyd of Long Beach California and Corp Artie M Howard of Salyersville Kentucky, died near Marshal Texas after a plane crash.

Montana School of Mines will open for the 1941-42 academic year with registration Monday and classes beginning Tuesday. Registrar W M Brown reports near record enrollment expected despite conscription and defense work. About 125 rooms in the residence hall are filled and transcripts are due today. Juniors seniors and graduates register Monday morning by noon while freshmen and sophomores enroll Monday afternoon by 4 o clock. Classes start at 8 Tuesday morning. Faculty will meet at 10 today to finish opening arrangements.

Four Injured in Series of Auto Mishaps Near Deer Lodge
Four persons were injured in a chain of three crashes on Highway 10 near Deer Lodge involving a Tingling and a Butte driver. John Eliason and his wife, David Tingling, Archie Strickland, and R F Braunell of Chicago were affected. Tingling faced possible charges after hospital treatment for a severe facial laceration and shoulder injury.

In Vichy Paris eight alleged Communists accused of terrorism and anti German manifestations were executed amid a surge of sabotage. Six condemned by a Paris tribunal were executed. two others were shot for aiding the enemy. Sabotage spread to rural areas with barns burned and a Paris garage attack. George R. Metlen 71 longtime Beaverhead county native and former Montana Highway Commission secretary died in Dillon. Helena Montana September 19 The state fish and game department began planning a large scale trans planting program moving Chinese pheasants from eastern Montana to the Townsend district. Federal authorization was received for eight refuges where 800 birds will be released in batches of 500. Trapping will start after the 1941 hunting season and two year closures will apply. Plans also include trapping pintail grouse for Broadwater county refuges and an experimental batch of yellow legged prairie chickens from North Dakota to Fort Peck.
