Britain grows embarrassed by Czech refusal to promptly accept a program as negotiations with Chamberlain over Hitler’s demands face delay. European leaders watch for a quick accord or a stall in momentum.
Nearly 400 workers battled two out of control fires in the Absaroka National Forest near Boulder river country and Chico Hot Springs in the Yellowstone valley. About 200 men fought the Chico blaze with 50 CCC youths rushed from Gallatin, while the Boulder fire’s extent was not reported and both fires were man made.
Senator B. K. Wheeler left Butte for Bozeman to fill a speaking engagement and will return tonight to deliver a 9 30 radio address on The War Situation. He is scheduled to speak at Whitefish on Wednesday as Montana's senior senator.
London reports Germany demands rapid Czech surrender of Sudetenland under seven power guarantee. Adolf Hitler reportedly urged Prime Minister Chamberlain to meet German terms by tomorrow, risking a postponement of Chamberlain’s trip to Godesberg if no accord is reached.

American Hotel association executive councillors were also named.
In Butte Montana eighty seven residents were admitted to U S citizenship in a district court session led by Federal Judge James H Baldwin and U S naturalization examiner Edgar R Bonsall The hearings lasted from morning until 6 30 p m and included a list of petitioners The date schedule for the remaining cases was disrupted by a Spokane office typo delaying examiner arrival and postponing some hearings to Wednesday Twenty nine petitioners remain to be examined this week with a total of 199 petitioners expected later in the process
Florida braces as a tropical hurricane bears down from the Bahamas toward the Florida peninsula. At 3 pm the storm’s center was 530 miles east of southeast of Miami moving west-northwest at about 20 mph with winds near 75 mph. Palm Beach to the Florida Keys area expected landfall, emergency groups and Red Cross mobilize, shelters prepared, properties boarded up, and shipping seeks cover.
