Florida fights giant snails threaten North Miami area

An estimated 15 000 to 30 000 gallons of crude oil spilled from a Swedish tanker at a Standard Oil wharf near Richmond California. The spill crossed two oil pipes, with oil reaching up to the Richmond San Rafael Bridge area. Cleanup involved 120 Standard Oil workers, 6 skimmers, 11 vacuum trucks, plus 150 contract personnel and a 10 000 foot containment boom. Cleanup expected to finish by Saturday afternoon.
