Ship Hits Mine Near Korea Wreckage Leaks Five Missing
The U S destroyer Barton struck a drifting Communist mine off Korea causing a five foot hole and flooding. Five sailors were missing and seven seriously injured while the ship was near carrier forces Bon Homme Richard and Princeton about 100 miles from Won san Hungnam. Inquest Called Off in Death of Bearmouth Man
Philipsburg coroner R R Wilson said no inquest will be held into the death of A C Schilling, a Bearmouth recluse, fatally shot by a sniper last Sunday. An autopsy by the coroner and Dr L R Nesbit determined the cause of death, making further inquest unnecessary. The investigation remains unsolved and clues were turned over to Sheriff Fritz Lueck. Schilling had written his obituary in a diary before dying and noted the time of the shooting as fifteen minutes to six.
