William D. Kyle Dies at 66 Prominent Butte Attorney

William D. Kyle 66 a longtime Butte attorney died suddenly of a heart attack at his home 1215 Steel Street Saturday. A leading figure in Montana law he was born in Ruby Hill Nevada and came to Butte with his family. He graduated from Butte High School in 1897 and had lived in the Mining City for sixty years.

Kalispell Schools Closed for Week

Kalispell authorities ordered all schools closed for a week after reports of infantile paralysis. One death, a two and a half year old hospitalized patient, and precautions issued to avoid large gatherings were reported. Mrs. Laura Overly died, her husband an Army doctor stationed in England.

Yanks Capture Peleliu Airfield in Pacific Drive

Marine veterans of Guadalcanal seized Peleliu airdrome after bitter fighting Friday. The 4,200 foot airstrip fell under a three way pincers with artillery, tanks, warships and carrier aircraft aiding the assault. American forces extended the beachhead to two and a quarter miles, occupying the island's southern end except for two small areas. Admiral Nimitz announced Saturday night. casualties cited include over 1,400 Japanese dead.

Bricker Plans Montana Stop in Butte October 9

Gov. John Bricker of Ohio will tour Montana October 9 with stops in Billings Livingston Bozeman Butte Helena and Great Falls. He is to address labor small business and industry groups and speak at the Civic Center in Great Falls at 8 p.m. The visit is arranged by state GOP leaders and Bricker aides.

Point Values Boosted Sharply by Ration Changes

The Office of Price Administration ordered sharp increases in point values for remaining rationed processed foods and a broad removal of many items from rationing effective Sunday. New values affect canned and bottled fruits juices tomatoes and sauces with blue tokens becoming obsolete. Red point values for meats butter and dairy remain unchanged while certain prepared foods move to the red chart.

Waste Paper Drive Set for Sept 29 and 30
