Butte Montana watched 8500 spectators fill the new high school athletic field as the Butte Purples beat Havre 6 to 0 in the opening game under floodlights. John Corette led dedicatory remarks praising use of the facility for clean sport and future teams.
Washington dispatch reports an eight member Supreme Court bench ready to assemble on October 3 with no sign when President Roosevelt will nominate to fill the death of Justice Cardozo. Observers foresee a Senate confirmation delay and regard a nomination unlikely before the election or January Senate session.
Hawaii Governor J B Poindexter, en route to Washington for government business, says Europe faces an extremely serious war threat. He notes Hawaii as the first line of defense from the West and hopes to meet his brother Dr F M Poindexter of Dillon Montana at the American Legion convention in Los Angeles.

Critics of Mayor Frank L. Shaw led the recall vote in a special election. Unofficial returns from 280 of 2517 precincts showed 20 648 for recall and 10 827 against to determine if Shaw should be ousted.
