Gov. Nelson Rockefeller backs the decision to send state troopers into Attica prison to quell a four day riot that left at least 41 dead. He accepts full responsibility for the fatal toll as President Nixon renews support for the action.
About one third of Montana voters selected lobbyists ex-officers and ordinary citizens in the primary to pick partisan candidates for the November election. The Tuesday ballot produced statewide apathy toward personality contests within party structures with few issues beyond name recognition.
Butte aldermen annexed a Safeway area on Massachusetts Street over protest from the corporation. An L shaped parcel including Fred & Millie's Cafe and the Skookum Motel was up for annexation while some residences like Dr. John Davidson's were excluded. City Atty John Alexander said further study of the property description is needed amid protests that non resident freeholders lack voting rights to oppose the expansion.
Montana Certified Public Accountants meet in Butte for a three day convention first since 1963. About 200 attendees hear speakers including Stan mtynde John Ruffato and Milton Broeker. Forge ahead with tours and a Friday dinner dance amid golf and weather plans.
Dillon Republicans nominate John H. Anderson Jr. for con con general elections in District 21 Beaverhead and Madison counties. L Comer Sheridan and D Shively Twin Bridges also contend with Vichorek Dillon. Democrats Davis Dillon and Scully Ennis named without opposition. Final county tallies show Anderson leading in Beaverhead and Madison with 618 to 478 for Comer and 90 for Vichorek. Davis 293. Scully 185.
Mike Mansfield and Lee met Ashington negotiators and seven Butte union leaders to press unresolved issues. Mansfield telegraphed that once agreement is reached they will seek Nixon Cost of Living Council approval with both management and union representatives. The group spoke with Tom Tracy Palmer Penny Dave Powers and Jim who were part of the bargaining delegation.
In Deer Lodge County and surrounding areas voters nominated front runners for the November contest as Constitutional Convention delegates from District 19. Republicans Dahood Bryan Mannis Masse and Brouelette lead, while Democrats McCarvel McKeon Lorello Jurcich Laughlin Dickson Riley Best Galloway Ward trail. Official canvass under way with county tallies and weather updates noted.
Unofficial returns show Wesley O Ewart of Wilsall and Bozeman leading District 11 in Park and Gallatin counties. Six Republicans and six Democrats compete with lists including Ben Berg Bozeman Fred Martin Limon Zales Ecton Jr Manhattan Dean Chaffin Bozeman and Al Newby Belgrade. Mrs Eck tops Democratic ticket with 1430 votes for the statewide nomination. Accompanying her is Dr.

They caution results may not apply to humans but urge clinicians to watch long term marijuana users for tremors and convulsions and seek early treatment to prevent lasting harm.
