Incumbents Kirt Sigler and Eugenes E Keyes faced no opposition for renomination on the GOP slate. Democratic slate winner Edwin Johnson was conceded victory in his renomination race with Will F Nicholson noted in coverage.
Henry Siemer a New York City deep sea diver at 461 West 49th Street switched to Calvert Reserve describing it as the ampothent tasting whiskey at any price. The ad promotes Calvert Reserve Blended Whiskey 86.4 proof 65 percent grain neutral spirits from Calvert Distillers Corp New York City.
In several states GOP and Democratic primaries produced clear nominations. Wallgren tops Democratic governor contenders in Washington while Langlie leads GOP governor hopefuls. Cincinnati Ohio September 15 1942 Senator Robert A Taft charged President Truman with encouraging open defiance of the Taft Hartley law in response to Truman’s attack on his handling of the Chicago printers strike. Taft defended the law and criticized Truman’s veto message and ties to labor bosses while naming John S Knight and Chicago Daily News as critics.
Dust storms moved from Idaho and Washington into northwestern Montana, blanketing towns like Cut Bank and Helena. Windy gusts 25 to 35 mph raised dust over plains east of the divide, with forecasts of further movement toward the Dakotas and minimal damage reported so far. A second, separate item notes a Seoul area train collision during the Korean occupation, killing 25 U.S. soldiers and injuring 80, with two Korean children killed and 40 injured.
U S government files two civil anti trust suits against Armour Swift Cudahy and Wilson seeking dissolution into 14 independent firms. The International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers announces to President Truman it has asked the Immigration Department to admit international delegates barred entry. The largest local union from Sault Ste. Marie area, located in Ontario, is denied entry, with other delegates including women turned back at the border. The letter claims immigration acts as anti union agents, accusing both governments of union busting under communist charges.
A study notes seventeen penguin species inhabit the southern hemisphere, outlining diversity across Antarctic coasts and subantarctic islands. Researchers highlight varied habitats and migration patterns among the distinct species.
