President Roosevelt's plan to oust out of step lawmakers faced another setback as Walter F. George clinched renomination in Georgia with 141 742 votes and 246 county unit votes. Eugene Talmadge finished second as the President targeted Senate challengers.
Albert Dyer, 33, who killed three young girls in Los Angeles and assaulted their bodies, faced execution on the San Quentin gallows after being moved to the condemned row. He awaited Governor Merriam’s decision on a possible sentence commutation to life, while the governor’s office offered no comment and no kin appeared to claim the body. Dyer, a former WPA school crossing guard, lured Madeline and Melba Everett, aged 9 and 7, and Jeannette Stephens, 8, to Centinela park in Inglewood on July 26, 1937, garrotted them and desecrated their bodies.
