Flames Destroy Elm Street Home Amid Heavy Rain
A four room house and garage at 3024 Elm Street were burned last night leaving four people homeless. The property belonged to Mrs. Francis Hoff who was away when the blaze started just before a heavy rain. Firemen fought the flames as crowds gathered and two autos collided nearby causing minor damage. A separate downtown blaze at Cewishi Furniture on 42 West Broadway caused slight basement damage. Seven fire calls were logged in the 24 hours ending 11 p.m. including chimney fires false alarms and small blazes.

Melvin Clark of Saint Paul died when his airplane entered a tailspin near Wold-Chamberlain flying field. He attempted a parachute jump from about 5,000 feet but the chute failed to operate. Witnesses told the coroner that the plane appeared to stay in a vertical spin until the fatal end.

Alcohol as Cure for Sleeping Sickness and Epilepsy
Dr C F McClintic of Detroit College of Medicine told the Wisconsin State Medical Society that injecting alcohol under a major artery can cure sleeping sickness and epilepsy. He described forming a complete collar around the artery and noted tissue charred appearance after injection. He cited about twenty chronic lethargic encephalitis cases and a similar number of epilepsy cases treated since 1928 with this method.

The annual report by County Superintendent Agnes Meade Hanratty shows Silver Bow county received 795,498.43 dollars from county and state for operations in the year ending June 30, 1929. Butte district No. 1 got 679,152.82 dollars while the other seven districts shared 116,336.61. Salaries for teachers in Butte totaled 504,170.22 with remaining districts paying 14,992.69.
