A state committee formed to lead the campaign for Referendums 61 and 52 on Montana’s general election ballot November 2. Campaign manager Albert Finickean heads a roster of supporters from Missoula, Great Falls, Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Havre, Miles City, and Kalispell including John S. Barovich, Paul Gillespie, Father Frank Harrington, Rhoda Kenne l, Mike Dacey, W. J. Jameson, Eugene W. Savage, and others.
HELENA Sept 13 A George Graham of Great Falls was chosen as chairman of the Montana Republican executive committee at a Sunday meeting in Wilsall. Ernest Thimes, the party's executive secretary, announced the result. Mrs Mayo Story Dean of Bozeman was named vice chairman as the committee met with GOP candidates to plan strategy and honor Rep Wesley A O Ewart for re election in the Montana eastern district.
Tom Davis of Butte, Republican senatorial candidate, announced his campaign schedule for the week. He will be in Chester and Shelby Tuesday, Gescade Craig Wolf Greek and Helena Wednesday, Butte Thursday Friday and Saturday, then Great Falls Sunday.
Helena report says Governor Ford urges all Montanans of voting age to register before Friday Sept 17. Automatic registration applies to those who voted in 1942 primaries or 1946 general. others must register. Ford emphasizes the election's crucial nature and international scrutiny, urging patriotic organizations to mobilize members.
Helena announces H. B. Andes of Bozeman reappointed Morb. J. Donoghue, former Butte newspaper man, as party publicity director for the general election campaign. The state party opens offices at 2 North Main Street for operations.

They consider joining the Progressive Metalworkers' Council, which has extended a charter. A proposed resolution would back the CIO program and oppose Henry Wallace’s third party while endorsing the Marshall Plan.
About 500 delegates attend Montana State College as the 1948 state 4 H club Congress opens in Bozeman. The program runs through Thursday with contests in agriculture and home economics, dress revue, and group discussions on creating a more responsible citizenship. Marian Molne of Fergus chairs the dress revue. the state winner earns a trip to the 4 H Congress in Chicago.
Montana juvenile delinquency study commission, named by Gov. Ford, failed to meet with only one of its six members present. Rep. Jack C. Toole traveled from Shel by to attend, adjourned after an hour. The commission, chaired by Judge G. F. Holt, includes Deane Bailey, A. J. Horaby, Ellenore Bridenstine, and the Rev. L. B. Whitman.
Former Communist Budenz declares on September 13 that Afln columnists are entrenched on the west coast and in Alaska and Hawaii. He says Hollywood is a fifth column stronghold and urges the U S to stand firm against the Russians while war is not inevitable. Scotty Beaton, 74, Glacier National Park’s oldest lookout, ends a 64 year flawless fire record at Numa Ridge.
The Business and Professional Women gather at Mrs. Gerald Fitzpatrick’s home to finalize plans for the district conference in Deer Lodge next Sunday. Attendees include members from Helena, Butte, Anaconda, Missoula, and Deer Lodge. A breakfast starts at 10, lunch at 1, with Marie Lasse of Helena as speaker and state officers expected. Delegates will tour the state penitentiary to view the toy project work.

Deer Lodge notices report the first quarterly conference postponed indefinitely after Rev. Reuben Dutton of Billings district superintendent canceled plans for Wednesday evening. The Deer Lodge brief also notes Lester Blankenberg and wife begin a multi state vacation visiting relatives in Colorado Iowa Minnesota and Minnesota again before returning to Missouri. A fire at Glyder Wood ranch near Victor destroyed a barn and outbuildings with estimated damage of 25000 dollars due to spontaneous combustion.
Scott Harrison of Helena was elected president of the Montana Building and Loan league at its two day meeting in Great Falls. Officers named included James G. Holland of Havre as vice president and William N. Dixon of Muscouta as second vice president while Paul A. Johnson of Great Falls was re elected secretary treasurer. Francis Moore of Washington, D.C. was chosen secretary of the Federal Home Loan bank board.
San Francisco mayor Elmer Robinson launches a psychological warfare tactic in his pigeon campaign by ordering aluminum two faced hoot owls from a Decatur manufacturer. The move targets pigeons loitering around city buildings after a recent law restricting the birds.

After admission to Dr Dave Wilson at University of Virginia hospital Charlottesville the condition was diagnosed as psychiatric, not surgical. Three day treatment cured her.
In Worth Texas on September 13 the Texas state Democratic executive committee narrowly certified Lyndon B. Johnson as the party candidate for the U S Senate by a 29 to 28 vote after debates by Johnson and Coke Stevenson backers over precinct 12 in Jim Wells County. Stevenson refused to concede. Johnson said he viewed the matter as a question for the United States Senate.

Forty year old Billings businessman Lee P.F. Allenen shot himself to death at 6 30 Monday morning with a 44 caliber pistol beside his ear. Doctor Jacob Martin Jortland, 59, longtime Laurel resident, died at a local hospital Sunday night after illness.
