Rumors of a coup sweep Saigon as para troopers move and air activity remains absent. Phat plans a 4 p.m. press conference while Catholic youths brace for potential clashes amid past Buddhist concessions and rising tension. Buddhist authorities urge restraint.
Dora strengthened to 65 mph as it moved toward the Atlantic, flooding Live Oak with up to 10 feet of water and isolating the town. National Guard aid was mobilized while Jacksonville and Brunswick faced renewed damage. Bermuda faced winds from hurricane Ethel as it lashed the mid Atlantic island, with forecasters predicting 100 mph winds.
Montana Democrats gathered about 600 at the convention in Lewistown with keynote remarks by Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield and Gov. Pat Brown of California. Brown attacked Barry Goldwater while Mansfield warned against wavering on campaign positions as the party endorsed a new platform opposing sales tax increases and open shop laws. Brown praised Montana figures and warned that no Democratic presidential candidate has carried Montana.
Montana Democrats confront reapportionment as a major issue at the state platform meeting in Lewistown. Leaders including state Senator and chairman Fred E. Barrett discuss how to redraw the legislature if required, with views split on the method pending congressional action.
Mrs Myra Anderson, 30, of 817 E Park Anaconda was struck in the abdomen by a .22 rifle bullet fired through a side door of the Bottoms Up Bar. She remained in critical condition at St Ann Hospital as authorities linked the attack to Joseph Puccinelli 20 of 1012 E Fourth who was treated for a gunshot wound and arrested.

Her bert Edgerton Rolfe and his wife visited Great Falls from Ryderwood Washington recounting memories of Sidney Edgerton Montana’s first territorial governor. Rolfe cited family history from Martha Edgerton Plassman and noted Edgerton helped secure Montana’s territorial status in 1864 and that his role extended beyond governor to the Idaho Territory boundary question.
Flowers dinners beverages and refreshments are questionable expenditures in the operation of a fire district. Silver Bow County volunteer fire departments faced comments during annual examinations of their books by B H Kennedy. The exams, authorized by the last legislature, are the first ordered for Montana VFDs using public tax money.
Three Montanans died in separate incidents on Saturday raising the year toll to 182. Mrs. Margaret Meyer of Geyser perished in a two car crash after being thrown from the vehicle and run over. Rex Chapman, 16, of Bigfork, died when his farm tractor overturned and pinned him. Dwin Sedy, about 70, of Great Falls, was killed when struck by a cement truck at a highway paving site.

Temperature trends show small changes across regions east of Divide and west of Divided with highs 70 to 85 and lows 35 to 45.
