Ex Sheriff Angus McDonald Dies at 65 in Philipsburg
Angus Alexander McDonald 65, former Granite County sheriff for 14 years and county peace officer 25 years, died Sunday after a hospital stay. A World War I veteran, he served as sergeant in a machine gun unit and later trained as an officer. He was elected sheriff in 1928 and served until 1942.

A two story house owned by Earl Holman on North Main in Centerville burned to the ground Sunday morning after three prior fires. Centerville Volunteer Fire Chief Ray Rashleigh said the building is down to the ground. Fire crews from Centerville and Walkerville responded after being alerted at 5 18 a m. Earlier, Centerville teams fought a grass fire at 15 E LaPlatte at 3 20 a m.

Two Airmen Die In Jet Crash At Oklahoma City
An A B57 twin engine bomber crashed and burned in a residential area on the east side of Oklahoma City two minutes after takeoff from Tinker Air Force Base. Maj. Thomas J. Deegan 37 and Airman Robbie L. Rolland 25, both from Edwards Air Force Base California, were killed.

Airman rescues two officers in simulated space cabin fire
At Brooks Air Force Base a sealed simulated spaceship cabin suffered a blaze as two officers neared the mission end. Airman J C Henry W Hall forced the seal and pulled Capt. Carl C Okla and Capt. Dean B Smith to safety. Both officers were not seriously injured.
