Gen Jose Evaristo Uriburu seized control in Argentina after arresting many former officials including the elderly Hipolito Irigoyen. Martial law was proclaimed in Buenos Aires to curb violence from the previous night’s inaugural celebrations.
Washington reports drought relief via reduced freight rates for livestock feed. The agricultural counselor added 317 counties to a list already proposed to receive lower rates, with railroads willing to aid drought relief. Carriers may cut rates under a special ICC ruling without further action.
The forecast calls for unsettled conditions across Montana on Wednesday and Thursday. Cooler air moves in Wednesday, bringing lower temperatures and possible showers.
Eight states chose candidates for November contests with varied issues notably prohibition surfacing in Michigan and Washington. South Carolina and Louisiana saw Democratic nominations effectively decide the outcome as Senator Cole Blease faced a strong campaign.

Six men die and eleven are injured when a Reading railroad locomotive explodes in the roundhouse yard. Foremen John Bremiller aged 46 and James Gordon 47 are among the dead. other victims include John Kelly 38, Frederick Spangler 49, and Crawford Dunseath 45. Continued on page 2.
The Butte Silver Bow Council led 32 western region councils in membership gain and Scout advancement for the quarter ending June 30, with 823 points out of 1000, marking a potential new national record and the third time achieving the rank.
Officers of the Me ty of Engineers are being used by Lloyd Gage secretary for a tentative program to be held at the ei Building of the Montana Cell on Oct 3 and 4. Nominees include A V Corry for president Frank Scotten first vice president PF Whyte second vice president L G Butte secretary A BE Adam treasurer and Eric Therkelsen with Dr Curtis L Wilson as trustees. The retiring president is Dr W M Cobleigh of Bozeman.
Eugene G. Hill 38 claiming to be President Hoover relative was held on forgery suspicions in Los Angeles. He allegedly forged 55 and 20 dollar checks on Palm Beach Florida and Philadelphia Tennessee banks, with a hotel cashing one check. He admitted the charges, saying his parents were destitute.
The Butte Women's Democratic club met at 119 North Main Street and named its general committee after inspiring talks. A Friday meeting at 8:30 was announced and current Democratic officials were urged to attend. President Mrs. Margaret Curran led the session and urged voter registration, especially of young people. Other speakers included Mesdames Mamie Lena han Ella O Connor and Ella C Rowland Andrieux. The group offered use of headquarters for a checkroom from 9 am to 8 30 pm and asked for information on unregistered Democrats.
Kenneth and John Fisher were arrested by Deputy Fish Warden Art Fish regarding a truckload of fish. Fish stored the catch while awaiting court ruling on ownership and potential confiscation by authorities.
The Alimony club, formed by Chicagoans John Murray Mackie Phillip Collins, secured incorporation papers in Springfield to promote changes in divorce laws and alimony enforcement nationwide. They described the group as aiding men affected by matrimonial issues and seeking legislative and judicial reforms.

The Montana drought relief commission, appointed by Governor Erickson, will hold its initial meeting in Helena to outline plans. Members include chairman H. H. Piggott of Helena, K R Bricker of Great Falls, M L Wilson of Brozeman, J W Schnitsler of Froid, Mrs Catherine McCarthy of GlenDive, Harry Gallwey of Butte, and J T Kelly of Castagne.
Butte joins a nationwide effort under the White House conference on child health sponsored by President Hoover. School officials will conduct data gathering at no cost as part of daily duties, aiding data collection for the state’s children.
In New Orleans Captain N A Danese a 62 year old marine diver spent 26 hours trapped in a drainage canal under 22 feet of water. Entangled by piling he survived after his air line kept him connected to surface. His crew feared yanking the line could kill him.

William M. Whitney a suspended federal city official testified in federal court on charges of taking bribes from bootleggers aiding violations of prohibition tariffs and revenue laws. Whitney once legal adviser to Seattle’s prohibition unit described waterfront tips and police prowler cars that warned of liquor arrivals.
A coroner's jury convenes to probe the mysterious death of an unidentified man found unconscious in a doorway on South Arizona Street. Doctors report fractures and injuries from possible beating rather than a fall, suggesting homicide.
