Anaconda Man Named Montana School of Mines Metallurgy Professor
John L. Spielman, assistant research engineer at Anaconda Reduction works and noted metallurgist, was approved by the state board of education as professor of metallurgy at Montana School of Mines. He succeeds Dr. Curtis L. Wilson, now dean of the School of Mines at Rolla, Missouri, after 20 years on the Butte staff. Spielman, a North Dakota native and Anaconda resident, has worked on manganese, phosphate and acid research. He graduated in 1928 from North Dakota State College and is survived by his wife and a son.

Community Concert Season Reservations Open at Fox Theater

The 1,050 sheep from Warm Springs Sheep company of Benge Washington sold at the new Butte stockyards at prices from 4.50 to 11 a head. American Airmen Missing After French Sweep
Three American Eagle squadron pilots of the Royal Air Force were reported missing after a northern France sweep. Identified as W. H. Nichols of San Carlos California H. S. Fenlaw of Lewisville Texas and Eugene Tobin of Los Angeles. Nichols was believed killed when his plane exploded in flight. Tobin and Fenlaw were not certain, with one thought to have parachuted and the other seen gliding toward earth near Boulogne.

Capt Fritz Wiedemann former German consul general at San Francisco surfaced in Rio de Janeiro saying he is in South America on a special mission. He arrived last week aboard an Italian transatlantic plane and declined to reveal the mission’s nature. American Ship Sunk by Aerial Bomb
The State department said the American freighter Steel Seafarer was sunk by an airplane bomb in the Red Sea on September 7. All crew members were saved. The plane’s nationality is unknown. The ship, 424 feet long and 5,719 net tons, was owned by Isthmian Steamship Co. and was part of U S Middle East supply runs.
