U S Marines report about 400 casualties this week in heavy combat around Que Son Valley near the demilitarized zone. Enemy losses are pegged at 376 dead after four days of fighting as Marines press the line with Army reinforcements. Continuous shelling south of the zone indicates persistent North Vietnamese presence and a broader strategy to counter expected offensives.
The Pocahontas convention opens this morning with registration at 9 in the Finlen Hotel. About 50 persons are expected to register. Four councils from the area will take part in the session.
