A Three Forks woman Kathleen J. Carter 24 died after a two car collision near Three Forks Montana. Ralph G. Page 70 drove the other car. The weekend fatality count reached 228 in Montana. Butte Man Drowns As Judge Survives Boat Capsize
Alvin Joseph Preston 67 of 1651 Whitman apparently drowned Monday in Echo Lake northwest of Anaconda. Butte Police Judge John Seton, who is blind, was rescued after clinging to the capsized boat as Granite County officials moved it. Autopsy to determine Preston’s death pending. he reportedly did not wear a life jacket while Judge Seton wore one. Youths nearby attempted rescues but failed. Preston, born October 3, 1903 in Pleasant Hill Louisiana, lived in Butte 38 years, retired pumpman from Anaconda Copper, married Bertha Hofreuter in 1937, survived by wife and several children. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery with services pending at Duggan-Merrill Mortuary.
