OPA ordered new meat ceilings to curb prices after July 1 decontrol. Beef cuts rise up to ten cents a pound above June 30, loin lamb chops up 16 cents, while many pork and lower grade beef prices rollback to June 30 levels. Overall average increase about 3.75 cents per pound.
The 58th annual Montana Bar association convention at the Finlen hotel draws lawyers with a full Saturday agenda. Officers will be elected after discussions on war crimes, legal subjects, and an evening banquet with James T. Finlen Jr. as toast master. Notables include Ralph J. Anderson, Charles Horsky, John W. Bonner, Claude Meredith, Earle N. Genzberger, Russell E. Smith, and William Meyer.
Butte police and deputy firemen conducted a citywide cleanup raiding up town gaming venues. On Thursday 15 people were arrested and 30 slot machines seized. Friday morning 17 more were booked on vagrancy charges. Most arrestees were women and bonds were posted after hearings before Justices McNamara and Winston.

Richard Stodden a 61 year resident of Butte died suddenly Friday evening at his home at 702 Maryland He was born in Redruth Cornwall England came to the United States in 1885 and settled in the mining city He worked 35 years in the public school system and belonged to the Christian Science church Butte Pioneer club and the Stationary Engineers union Surviving are his wife a son and daughter in law a daughter and two sons in law ten grandchildren five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews The body is at Richards funeral home

Police report the body of John Patrick Donovan 32 of Butte was recovered from the Missoula river near the Garden City west edge. The coroner says money found on him suggests no violence. Donovan, a railway worker, resided at 1021 South Arizona, had been missing from a small boat. The body will be taken to Butte for Daly chapel services.
A moderate earthquake struck Ciudad Trujillo in the Dominican Republic at 6 p.m. Friday. No damage was reported, and there were no injuries noted.
