President Roosevelt pledges a balanced farm policy as concerns rise over European conflicts. Loyalist forces reportedly recapture a strategic post as rebels advance toward Madrid, with Militia seizing Talavera de la Reina in a pivotal moment abroad.
Madrid reports that Spain's government militia retook the Talavera de Reina sector, driving insurgents back about 15 miles with superior numbers. Major Contreras praised the effort as a turning point near Madrid, securing lines to Toledo and key routes from Extremadura.
Mrs. Bery Markham, the first woman to fly the Atlantic east to west, said the engine failed about 20 minutes before her plane crashed in a Cape Breton field. She drank brandy quickly, couldn’t see the moon or water, and believed a knock in the motor caused the loss of power.

Mrs. Stella Emerson 43 of 366 East Mercury Street died after a collision near Wisdom when a car overturned during an attempt to pass another vehicle. An airplane raced to Butte carrying her, doctors fought to save her life with oxygen, but she died in St James Hospital. Relatives identified by Daly-Shea mortuary procedures.
The outlook calls for fair skies in Montana on Monday and Tuesday with a warming trend across the eastern portion on Monday.
