Security Council demands Kashmir cease fire and troop withdrawal

The United Nations Security Council unanimously urged an immediate cease-fire in Kashmir and called for Indian and Pakistani troops to withdraw from the 1949 cease-fire line. Secretary-General Thant to report back in three days on implementation.

Whitehall couple killed in Drummond area crash

Whitehall man George Payne and his wife Dorothy were killed when their late model car collided with a Helena vehicle five miles west of Drummond. Thomas L. Lariviere of Helena and John Sinclair of Chinook were in critical condition. Coroner Woodrow Ona reported the crash raised Montana 1965 traffic toll to 176, down from 184 last year.

Butte boom builds 250 homes in metro area

Butte home construction in the past year reached its peak with an estimated 250 residences in the metro area. Project costs exceed 500000 and Bolton officials note many houses under construction or completed since 1948 55 era. Figures come from bankers contractors and utility personnel.

Butte Goes On DST Alone Amid Time Changes

In recent months Butte residents faced DST confusion as Butte alone shifted to daylight saving time. Anaconda remained on Mountain Standard Time while many Smelter City residents used summer time unofficially. Anaconda Reduction Works shifted schedules June 2, stores opened 8 to 5, and Anaconda Co. mines closed Sunday and Monday except Clyde E Weed Concentrator.

U S recognizes DA regime and pledges aid to Dominican republic

President Johnson announced United States recognition of the new Dominican government under Hector Garcia-Godoy. He pledged 20 million dollars to finance essential government operations and early recovery projects as negotiations outline a withdrawal of the OAS peace force and May elections for a regular government.

Helena legislator offers services to liquor group

Montana State Rep. Thomas Judge of Helena offers to handle the Montana Licensed Beverage Association affairs for 300 dollars monthly plus 500 dollars yearly for stationery and postage. Beaverhead County Fair draws thousands despite cool weather

In Dillon at the Beaverhead County Fair thousands packed the grandstand for the Saturday horse racing program despite cloudy skies and cold temperatures. Two Montana men die in Charlo boat accident

In Charlo a fishing trip ended in tragedy as two Montana men died after a boat overturned on a reservoir Friday night. Rose's body was found about 75 yards from the wreck while Lucas remained in the water. Ground fog hampered the initial search but lifted Saturday morning. Greyhound runs halt bid denied by Montana commission

The Montana Board of Railroad Commissioners rejected Greyhound Corp Middle division’s request to discontinue two bus routes among Butte Helena and Great Falls. The order faulted Greyhound for lack of data and public convenience evidence and noted no financial or transportation data was provided. The routes in question included morning and evening services with arrivals in Great Falls and Butte.
