In Bombay on Tuesday authorities report Hindu Muslim violence expanding to northern districts. Casualties rise with 38 killed and 136 injured on the day, totaling 109 dead and 393 injured since Sunday. Police fire dispersed mobs after rooftop clashes and arson attempts.
Silver Bow county will resume induction calls for its three selective service boards on September 19. Draft orders have not yet been mailed. Those reaching 18 and registering in August are listed by board, with names and addresses of enrollees.
The Labor day weekend toll reached 342 deaths from public accidents across the nation. Traffic crashes accounted for 246 fatalities, 40 were drownings, and 56 from other violent causes. Every state reported at least one death. California led with 39, New York 24, and Ohio 21.
