U S B52 bombers hit approaches northwest of Saigon amid fears of a Communist attack on the capital during North Vietnam independence day observances. Fighter bombers flew 110 missions over North Vietnam as authorities kept Saigon on high alert.
Two workers and two others were treated at St James Community Hospital after inhaling gas at the Stauffer Chemical Co. Silver Bow plant west of Butte. Harold Sminesvic 47 of Opportunity in poor condition. Ray Palmer 27 of Rocker also fainted after assisting him. Other workers Earl McConkey and Ben McCoy were treated but not admitted. The exact gas was not yet identified by Monday evening.
Weather forecast for the region predicts partly cloudy skies and scattered showers today with a high near 60 and a low around 28. Tonight’s showers are unlikely, and the state fair warms on Wednesday with warmer conditions.

New York hotel workers marched from midtown hotels to Madison Square Garden in a union meeting demanding higher wages. Managers called it a walkout as many guests had meals buffet style and rooms were left unmade. Wages cited ranged from 69 to 140 dollars weekly with calls for 30 dollars more for non tippers and 15 dollars for tipped workers. Some workers joined the Labor Day parade afterward.
S F Sid Pimperton 67 a Fort Benton rancher and Chouteau County Sheriff Posse member died suddenly near Butte while traveling with fellow posse member Marshall Fisher. County Coroner Leo Jacobsen said heart attack caused death. The body was taken to Fort Benton after a truck journey with several horses stalled on Interstate 15.
