Navy Lt Klusmann Evades Captors in Laos Escape to Thailand
Navy Lt Charles F Klusmann escaped a Pathet Lao prison in Laos and reached Udorn Thailand where he is to be evacuated to an American facility. He was shot down June 6 over Plaines des Jarres and had waved off helicopters before being surrounded. The Navy pilot is in relatively good condition and may be moved to Clark Field in the Philippines for medical care.

Butte Public Schools Report 1963 Enrollment Rise
Butte public grade and high schools enrolled 7,458 students on Tuesday, up 8 from the first day of the 1963-64 term. The Greeley School led elementary gains with 398 students, Webster-Garfield up 42, and the Junior High total rose to 1,424 from 1,368. Butte High registered 2,000, up 30, with overall elementary 4,014 and junior high 1,424.

Civil rights leader Derrick Bell claimed intimidation by business figures and said the NAACP would seek court orders to stop such activity in the future. Firemen battled for nearly three hours to stop a blaze in the second story rear porch of 16 S Main from spreading to adjacent buildings including the Butte Motor Co. and damaged a power pole. Forty firefighters from Quartz St and Harrison Ave stations fought flames that threatened the Rialto Theater near the State Cafe housed in the same brick building owned by Dan G Buller. The alarm rang at 8 42 and crews returned to stations about 10 35 after confining damage to the rear porch using hoses from the alley and over the roof of the Butte Motor Co. on Galena.

Woman Freed On Bond In Manslaughter Case
Nora Joan Mickelberry, freed on a $4 bond, awaits further proceedings on a manslaughter charge in the shooting death of her husband Gordon Mickelberry, 37, of Butte. District Judge Downey set plea entry for next Tuesday at 1:30. Peterson became appointee then replaced by hired lawyers James D. and William B. Freebourn. The shooting occurred at 912 Lexington and Gordon died at St James Community Hospital. Funeral planned this afternoon.
