First Automobile Fatality in Year Recorded in Aberdeen
An inquest into a city auto fatality at 2100 Harrison avenue was opened by Coroner Rudy E. Savelovic after Essex 47 died at St. James hospital within a day of the accident. Essex resided at 2081 Ty and suffered head injuries with possible brain bleed. The body rests at Sherman and Reed funeral home awaiting arrangements. Texas population grew about 703,000 from 1940 to 1947.

The wife of Silver Bow county Sheriff Al McLeod, May McLeod, died shortly after 1 PM Wednesday in a Butte hospital. Born in Elk horn Montana 60 years ago, she was educated in Illinois and worked as a clerk in Butte Helena and Boulder before marriage in 1913. Funeral arrangements set for St Patrick church with burial at Mount Moriah.

Edgar Henderson, president of the Butte Kiwanis Club, reports on the Kiwanis International district conference held in Billings. Eight Butte members attended, including Archie Adams and N. Genzberger as past district governors, Spencer Tripp and Emmett Buckley as delegates, and John L. Cooney as former president and district PR head, plus Amy Axelson, Harold Schilling, and Henderson. The club showcased the Butte Sunshine camp. William Dolan led the exhibit, praised as the best at the convention. Tony Hunthausen of Anaconda was elected district governor for 1949, with Great Falls chosen as convention city. Don Grutch, a Butte High School senior, reported on Boys State activities in Dillon and was named attorney general on the Pioneer ticket during the event.

Former Butte Resident Dies in Lewistown
Fred J. Barselow born 1884 in Woodland California died August 26 in Lewistown after a brief illness. He lived in Suffolk Montana since 1910 and was survived by sisters and brothers-in-law in Cut Bank and Butte with five nieces. Funeral held in Lewistown August 29.
