Washington AP Secretary of Commerce Alexander B. Trowbridge said the copper supply is tightening but there is no evidence the administration will invoke the Taft-Hartley Act to force miners back to work. He hopes labor and management resolve their dispute within three to five weeks as inventories near bottom.
Northern Pacific Railway Co announced plans to discontinue the Streeter passenger train between Fargo North Dakota and Seattle Washington with post office cars by September 16. The move would trigger an estimated 1.18 million dollar annual loss for the line and sets the termination deadline for postal cars.
A 17 union joint strike committee and Anaconda Co. reached a plan to control Clark Fork River pollution without operating the Butte Copper precipitation plant.
