The Butte Country Club hosts its annual Pro-Amateur Golf Classic with about 200 entrants beginning today. Pro Tom Mulholland sharpens his eye while lining up a putt as part of the supporting cast.
Chairman H. J. Johnson disclosed the 1962 63 road fund levy rose from 4 to 10 mills while the bridge fund levy increased from 1 to 3 mills. Elizabeth Gerry and Gene Daly opposed and Daly took a three month leave starting today as Johnson and Gerry face reelection. Deadlocks may arise with a two member board during the leave and election period.
Direct negotiations resumed on Friday for the first time since a strike by about 1,000 telegraphers of the Chicago and North Western. Officials said talks neither progressed nor regressed and no quick settlement seemed likely as the strike entered its second day.

Washington reports the president signed a satellite bill amid criticism from a small Democratic group. He described safeguards to protect the public interest and said the public government and communications industry will have a vote, preventing any single firm from dominating.

Dan J Mooney a Butte building contractor is named a member of the Small Business Advisory Council. Appointment announced by Sens Mansfield and Metcalf. The council formed in 1961 evaluates SBA programs and advises on loans and licensing for small firms.
The Montana Supreme Court held the Teamsters Local 2 had the right to picket operations of the Butte Anaconda & Pacific Railroad. Picketing occurred along the Anselmo Mine yard during a strike against the Anaconda Co. since July 16. The court reversed an injunction issue, and declined to dismiss a second district court action pending in Butte.
A large crowd gathered at the Dillon fairgrounds drawing buyers and visitors from Hereford and surrounding areas to the annual event showcasing ranch products and local livestock.
United Press International reports Labor Day weekend traffic surged as about 75 million motorists planned trips by car. The National Safety Council warned of 410 to 490 deaths and up to 2,000 injuries over the 76 hour period. Chicago officials cautioned that railway strikes could worsen highway congestion and heighten danger.
A $1,089,864 contract between the General Services Administration and Anaconda Co. authorizes 136,233 long dry tons of manganese carbonate ore stockpiled in Butte and Philipsburg. Signing announced by Rep. Mansfield Metcalf Olsen in Washington. shipment plans to the Anaconda smelter in Montana. The stockpile must be completed within one year and includes a government nonwarranty sale clause.
