Smart aleck gunman strikes again in two thefts
Police search for a "good looking, smart aleck gunman" after his second robbery in a week. He grabbed a purse from Mrs. John Egan at 717 West Quartz Street near Clark Street and Granite Boulevard after 8 PM, taking a compact, gloves, $5 and coins. He also stole 40 cents from Mrs. John Haggerty at 726 South Washington Street Tuesday night. The suspect, about 5 feet 8 inches, light complexion, wore khaki pants and a light coat and muttered I have to eat.

McAdoo Loses California Primary Amid Pension Fight
Senator William Gibbs McAdoo conceded defeat in the California primary to Sheridan Downey the liberal backer of a $30 a week pension plan. Downey led with 299,574 votes to McAdoo's 275,911 as Olson won the Democratic nomination for governor. The state supreme court refused to bar the pension measure from November ballots.

Anaconda August 31 Special coroner's jury finds James Brainard died of a gunshot inflicted by Gilbert Dorland on August 14 1938 at Rainbow Inn. Witness William Walsh testified he saw the gun and heard the shot. Death attributed to pulmonary embolism from the wound. Brainard died August 23 in Anaconda hospital.

Acreage Allotments Planned for Sugar Beet Growers
The Agricultural Adjustment Administration announced that domestic beet sugar growers will receive acreage allotments for the 1939 crop to curb expansion.
