Helen Allen Conard Dies at 97 Eldest Montana Pioneer
Helen Allen Conard, 97, eldest member of Montana Society of Pioneers, died Wednesday at Mountain View Rest Home where she had lived about a year. Her brother Lu man W. Allen, 95, also a resident, and other surviving pioneers include Josephine Gilg, 92, Arthur Moran, 92, and Frank Nelson, 96. The society, open to Montana natives or residents by 1868, disbanded in 1962. Funeral rites are planned Saturday in Harrison with burial there. Scott Funeral Home of Whitehall handles arrangements. The Allens came from Newton Iowa in a wagon train along the Jim Bridger trail, settling at Jefferson City in 1866.
