In Seoul Korean front lines report the season's first snow as Chinese forces attack South Korean positions between Triangle Hill and Sniper Ridge. Two platoons of 50 to 80 men joined shelling, while 54 U.N. big guns fought back as winter looms over the central front.
Front reports show heavy artillery barrage on Reds withdrawal route and a brief clash that ended in an hour. Snow deepened as Allied command halted further attacks by South Korean infantry, with a Sniper Ridge effort repelled by Chinese forces. Sky duels saw U S Sabres claim a MiG-15 and damage eleven others.

Announcement of promotions in the Anaconda Copper Mining Company mining department. Arthur C. Bigley becomes general manager of Western mining operations, Edward S. Renouard is named manager of mines, and A R Sims becomes former manager Renouard’s successor. Edward Bonner Jr is named assistant general superintendent and Joseph Canavan promoted to mine foreman at Belmont. The promotions reflect long careers rooted on Butte Hill with many veterans moving upward.
Montana voters will give Republicans a solid edge in both legislative chambers in 1953 with 36 Senate seats to Democrats 20 and 62 House seats to 32. Republican J Hugo Aronson leads for governor by over 5 000 votes, while GOP George M Gosman leads for lieutenant governor.
The canvass of Silver Bow county general election votes begins at 10 o clock this morning. Clerk William T Duckham announces. Commissioners Joe H Sullivan Loretta L Sullivan and Frank Gersh check tally books with Duckham as clerk. Deputies from the recorder s office assist in the canvass.
Glendive area report: Dave Shell about 30 dies from strangulation when his clothing tangled in a seismograph rig at the three mile table north of Glendive. Vernon Lohse, his helper, found him and could not free him. Shell worked for William Colquitt Circle contractor. Surviving are his wife and young daughter. Mrs Shell, pregnant, was hospitalized in near collapse.
A US Air Force B-50 stratoliner crashed and burned in a field near Dunmow England. Firemen recovered five of the ten crew members with two others reportedly bailing out. Rescue teams from Wethersfield Air Force Base rushed to the scene about ten miles away. The plane remained ablaze two hours after the crash.
Washington reports Russia is flying experimental rocket fighter planes at speeds up to 1700 mph and altitudes above 100000 feet, according to American Aviation Magazine on Thursday.
Terrie Varnado a 46 year old bootblack pleaded guilty to grand larceny after rolling a safe down Main street Thursday morning and hauling it away in a taxi. Judge John B. McClernan sentenced him to three years in prison after signing a release in Sheriff Bill Dalling’s office.
The United States backs Gen. Mark Clark's sea defense zone in Korean waters and rejects a Soviet protest as propaganda. State Department notes Moscow’s objection after Clark announced the zone on Sept. 27 to shield South Korea, secure lines, and prevent enemy agents from POW camps.
Unofficial returns show Montana voters elected Republican Governor J Hugo Aronson and a Republican legislature, while maintaining a Democratic dominated congressional delegation led by Senators Murray Mansfield and Metcalf. Rankin conceded western district defeat to Metcalf.
Montana senator elect Mike Mansfield thanked voters in Butte for their confidence after defeating Sen. Zales N. Ecton. He credited Sen. Edon for a congratulatory telegram and pledged to work for Montana’s development national security and world peace.

With one race still undecided Michigan left in doubt as Gov. G. Mennen Williams trailed Republican Fred M. Alger Jr. by about 4,000 votes. Montana swung to J. Hugo Aronson over Gov. John W. Bonner by roughly 4,900. Delaware Indiana Illinois and Massachusetts also shifted to Republicans over Democrats in a sweeping gubernatorial trend.
A strike by 300 AFL flight engineers grounded United Airlines biggest planes, canceling 36 flights in hours at La Guardia and Idlewild and affecting Chicago Denver Seattle San Francisco Los Angeles Windsor Locks and Honolulu. Monforton Herefords of Bozeman captured grand championship honors in the bull division at the ninth annual Butte Hereford show and sale staged at the Montana Livestock Auction yards. Judge Herbert Chandler of Baker Oregon presided. the sale follows Friday with Sager and McKelvie as auctioneers. Lenix Badger of Livingston is sale manager.
