In a fast paced encounter Mining City's two high schools faced off with the field yielding a rapid game. The contest highlighted rivalry and strong defense as one team shutout the other 13 to 0.
At a crowded Butte high school auditorium a Democratic rally featured remarks on national state and county issues. Speakers included Senator T J Walker Tim Downey Judge Frank L Riley Jerry OConnell William Meyer and Senator Harry Gallwey who criticized campaign methods of Harrison J Freebourn and praised the party slate.
Franklin D. Roosevelt and Alfred E. Smith appeared together at the Academy of Music in New York, greeting thousands of Democrats. Roosevelt denounced Hoover's gold standard policy as a libel on U S credit and attacked a feared driven campaign, with Smith beside him in a show of united opposition.
More than 5,500 spectators attended the 16th annual all-Butte gridiron clash at Clark Park as Butte High and Butte Central battled for a place in the state championship race. The 2 pm kickoff came amid record fall crowds aided by a 50 cent admission, with gates opening at 12:30 and ideal weather aside from a south wind.
Frank A. Hazelbaker, candidate for governor, spoke at a Republican rally in Anaconda drawing a large crowd at the Junior high auditorium. Sen. J. B. Juarez Mexico November 4 wholesale beer prices fall to new lows as Mexican brewers dump stocks ahead of possible US prohibition repeal. Monterrey brewery cuts case price from about 2.82 dollars to 1.81 dollars. Over the bar prices run about 10 cents per pint.
In Milledgeville Georgia a father William Hulsey and his son Fred were executed by electric chair for the 1922 killing of three men during a poker game on their Rockhart farm. The son claimed innocence and attempted suicide as Gov Russell denied a reprieve and campaigned in North Carolina.
President Hoover, in his first public prohibition address of the re election campaign, defends his August acceptance speech. He accuses Democratic repeal advocates of misleading aims and insists his position offers practical protection for dry states amid a closing campaign push.
Anaconda and Bozeman high school football teams meet at Athletic Field in Anaconda amid ideal weather. Anaconda seeks rebound after two straight losses to Butte teams while Bozeman arrives after a tie with Butte and a later elimination defeat. Coach Doc Seibert emphasizes defense on the wing.
Senator Walsh urged support for Governor Erickson in Lewiston after praising the governor’s public service. He endorsed Judge Roy E. Hedgesville suffered a major fire destroying all west side Main street structures late last night. Origin unknown, started at Haralade's general store and spread with wind. Harlowton firefighting aid arrived late. bucket brigades saved the opposite side. Loss estimated around 20000 dollars with about 9000 dollars insured.
Fifteen road and bridge contracts totaling 1 120 097 were awarded today by the Montana highway commission in Helena. The last setting of the year is scheduled for December 15 with 13 projects to be offered. For the last half of October 3 381 men, 98 per cent Montanans, were employed on road and bridge projects statewide. An error in a certified check affected the Grass Range Jordan road project in Petroleum and Garfield counties.
Eight people including a child and a 73 year old man were treated at Hollywood Receiving hospital for bites from a dog that roamed several blocks. The dog was shot by motor police after attacking Mrs. Gertrude Green. Police sought a ninth bite victim, a 17 year old boy, for anti rabies treatment but could not locate him. The dog's brain was sent to the city health department for a rabies test.
P Belle Bennett, long famous as a stage and screen mother, died at Cedars of Lebanon hospital in Hollywood after a long illness.
Montana forecast calls for unsettled conditions Saturday and Sunday with rain or snow in the west and central regions. Colder temperatures are expected in the east and central areas Sunday, with extreme west portion affected Saturday.
STEVENSVILLE November 4 Special Gov J E Erickson spoke to a packed Bitter Root audience at the American theater presenting campaign debaters on debt reduction and state finances. Joseph P Monaghan for congress also spoke on national issues urging Roosevelt Garner with strong applause from attendees. Other speakers included W R Wyatt for superintendent of public instruction Raymond T Nagle for attorney general James J Brett for state treasurer John Holmes for state auditor and Tom Carey for railway commissioner.
John J Arkob in a Democratic campaign address urged Roosevelt Garner victory and presented a five point plan. He called for repealing the Eighteenth Amendment to liberalize the Volstead Act for light wine and beer, plus an excise tax on beer.
Newton D. Baker former secretary of war at a Democratic rally in Montclair asserts the Republican tariff policy is madness and that Hoover’s foreign and domestic policies are near sighted. He urges electing Governor Roosevelt and criticizes the administration’s world trade expansion and long distance control.
