Washington dispatch reports a closing campaign in a nation divided over New Deal policies. Roosevelt in New York and Landon in St Louis rally partisans as turnout predictions soar past 44 million for Tuesday amid varying forecasts and warnings.
A Montana editorial argues against a proposed constitutional amendment labeling it a step toward a six hour workday. It notes existing eight hour rules and warns that reducing hours would raise costs for industries like Anaconda Copper, harming Montana’s competitiveness and job prospects.

The coroner's jury found Mrs Beatrice Lawrence died from a 25 35 calibre rifle shot at her home 2215 Walnut Street around 515 p m October 24 with the gun fired by person or persons unknown. Coroner M F Duff presided and over a dozen witnesses testified. W L Bacon, at the home, did not testify. No further action indicated by the county attorney's office.

County chairman William McCarthy led the event with speakers including Carl J. Traverman, John Emigh, Dr. Harry Farrell, John K. Claxton, Phil O'Donnell, Sam Speigel, and A B Cohen. They urged support for the Democratic slate with county and township candidates also listed.
Early yesterday window-smashers destroyed about 300 dollars of property. Burglars at Gordon Jewelry, 113 North Main, took 400 to 500 dollars in watches and rings after forcing plate-glass displays. Store manager H. A. Gordon said brackets were removed and a smaller window was cracked. Police checked the inventory yesterday afternoon.

In Catalonia 200000 loyalists mobilized to defend the coast after a rebel flotilla attacked Rosas Bay, killing about 100 insurgents. Rebels fell back as defense forces fortified the coast and pressed toward Madrid amid renewed offensives. Air raids on Madrid killed 146 and wounded 200 as bombers attacked the capital.

In Missoula area, national and state candidates closed their Montana campaign in a large University of Montana rally. Senator James E Murray seeking re election Roy Ayers for governor and J J O Connell for Congress addressed the crowd after a banquet at Loyola auditorium hosted by Young Democrats of Missoula county. Despite bad weather the events drew strong enthusiasm.
A Montana weather note predicts snow on Sunday with likely snow continuing into Monday. Warmer temperatures are expected Monday after the snowfall.
Gov Alf Landon spoke at the St Louis Convention Hall on October 31 blasting the New Deal for broken promises. He said the administration cannot assure recovery or confidence because voters do not know what to expect next and that Roosevelt runs from its record rather than on it.

On October 31 near Three Forks Montana Associate Justice John A Matthews swerved to avoid two cows, the car left the road rolled end over end twice, then stopped upright. Matthews remained strapped to the wheel, his pipe in place, hat lost, hair askew, and later walked to town for help. A wrecker retrieved the damaged vehicle.
The International Seamen's union voted to strike after internal opposition was overruled. The move extended to overland rail cargo and eastern ships, raising concern about effects on Alaska and Hawaii.
