A dam collapse at Cantys Lake sent a wall of water down Hail Columbia Gulch and Brown's Gulch north of here, with 10 to 50 foot high floods lasting about 30 minutes. No loss of life or livestock, but roads and bridges over 10 miles suffered damage estimated in the thousands by county surveyor Mike Loughran.

A 13 year old boy from Dena Avenue Los Angeles picked up a dynamite cap at a local tourist park. Playing with it he exploded the cap, losing the thumb index and middle finger of his left hand and injuring his abdomen. Doctors reported the boy resting easily.
