Butte's Ridge Waters to open with new features this season

Butte's Ridge Waters water park will open June 8 for a summer season with revised concession options and faster entrances for punch card holders. The $8.7 million facility, opened in 2018, will offer daily open sessions noon to 3 pm and 4 to 7 pm through August, plus mornings of Lazy River walking and occasional lap swimming. Manager Stacey Butler notes high turnout for river walkers, and confirms an expanded concession menu as a key new feature.

Couple in Butte child abuse case plead not guilty

Sean Lee Northey Toni Lynn Northey and family friend Shelly Ann Miller all plead not guilty to multiple felony counts of assault on a minor and numerous misdemeanor charges. Prosecutors describe a filthy home with cockroaches bedbugs and odors four children testing positive for marijuana. Police found three children in an alley on Nov. 30 and they admitted running away due to abuse.

EPA expects Copper Mountain report in July

The Copper Mountain complex sits atop a Superfund waste repository in Butte with an engineered cap and restricted access. EPA previously flagged seeps on private land downslope likely carrying metals and noted jeep pooling from the Clark Tailings area. Atlantic Richfield BP said it is investigating under the consent decree and will build a site model after completion. no update was provided by deadline.
